New Shingles

Silas was fascinated, watching the activity in the cul-de-sac as new shingles were delivered and set up on our neighbor's roof. Many houses in the neighborhood have been re-roofed during the past two weeks. Several individuals came to our door as well to try and convince David's parents that their two-year old shingles need replacing. Well, we may have gotten hail in August, but it wasn't enough to make a cause for a new roof. As near as we can tell, the neighbors didn't really need roofs either, but I guess that was between them, their insurance companies, and the sweet-talking roofing companies!

Visitors

We enjoyed a nice visit (and dinner!) with David's aunt and uncle (pictured here with his parents).

Baby Dolls

Mr. Joe!!!

We enjoyed a surprise visit on the 17th from our good friend and brother in Christ from Ketchikan- Joe! He doesn't live in Ketchikan anymore, but is driving truck all over the U.S. This trip brought him through Greeley, and so we got to enjoy a wonderful evening with him.
The kids were very happy to see him. Silas alternately called him, "Mr. Joe," and "Uncle Joe" (from hanging around Caleb).
Joe got to meet the 3-month old member of our family. We were glad to share a meal together. Joe laughed when he saw that we were having meat-kabobs. Apparently they were on the menu at one of his "see-you-later" meals in Ketchikan with our friends, the "Forget-Me-Not-8's."
All good things must come to an end. Here's Joe pulling away in his big red truck. Thanks for stopping in, Joe! We were sure glad to have some time with you. Anyone else coming our way- please holler! We'll feed you, provided a bed, if necessary, and count on a good time of fellowship.

Dirt Magnets

Nothing like a good morning of digging in the garden!
So much dirt to haul, so little time.

New Potatoes

Silas and Amelie had the opportunity to help Grandpa and Grandma V. dig potatoes from the garden. Grandma V. planted several potato pieces with eyes last spring, not sure what would happen, and voila! Potatoes!

Hurray!

Cleaning the freshly dug potatoes and carrots with Uncle Aaron. Uncle Aaron made gourmet mashed potatoes for dinner that night. Mmmm!

Cattails!!

We brought some cattails home from the park/open space near the house. They weren't quite "ripe", so we let them sit a week or two. The kids enjoyed pulling the fuzz from the stalks.
It makes quite the fluffy mess!
It was all great fun, until they disappeared into the garage while I was sitting on the front steps ripping the seams out of an old Fuzzi Bunz diaper. When I got to the kids, they had already started "decorating" David's motorcycle! They cleaned it off to the best of their ability, and then I cleaned the fuzz out of the garage to the best of my ability! (The air compressor was buried in the back corner, so I implemented a box fan.)

Naptime Peace

Problem: Undiapered child found playing in toilet. Further investigation reveals diaper in crib, contents of diaper on several blankets & pillow case. Clean prefold found on floor, pile of soiled wipes next to wipe container.

Intervention: Child placed in bubble bath (the more soap bubbles- the greater the cleaning power, right?). Solids appropriately disposed of, diaper placed in diaper pail, crib linens removed and put in HOT wash, crib and other surfaces sanitized.

Evaluation: Child washed (thoroughly), dried, re-diapered, re-dressed, and replaced into crib. Nap ensued. Plan to more aggressively pursue potty training in near future. No rest for the weary (mother).

"I want to taste these so badly that I've got drool dripping off from my chin!"

Three Months Old

Here's Josiah- officially three months old on September 8.

Labor Day

We enjoyed a special outing to North Shore Park on Lake Loveland for Labor Day. It's the best we could do for a beach here in Colorado. The view was not quite as spectacular as the beaches around Ketchikan, but the sand was nice. The city has a lifeguard on duty all summer and a couple of weekends after the schools start. This was the last official swim day of the year.

Can you tell where the mommy hung out most of the time? She had some great company. He thought fingers were the order of the day.


David & Aimee - five years of sweet marriage on August 21st. My how time flies when you're having kids! Wait- did I say kids? I meant to say, "...when you're having fun!" But we all know that kids can be lots of fun. :-)
A real, live merry-go-round! We thought these things had been driven to extinction by safety-frenzied lawsuits, so we were happy to find this one at the playground.
Yee-haw! We have a cowgirl in our midst.
Remember those great diggers at the playground when we big people were little? This park had two of them- one for each child, of course! Amelie and Silas could have played on these all day long.

What a beautiful day we had. Silas states, every couple of weeks, "Mom, I just really like the sun." We're glad he adjusted since he had indicated a dislike for it when we first moved from Ketchikan. Anyway, this was a really great park/beach, and we'll try to take advantage of it more often than just the last official swimming day next summer!
