Roof Repairs

The joys of owning a home, right??? Let's play "spot the problems" in the photos below. :-)

Our house is currently in the middle of roof repairs...the back of the house last week and the front of the house this week.

The Back: The trusses around and under the A/C unit reinforced, sheeting replaced, new shingles woven in.The back issues were from condensation and bad sealing/installation of the original A/C unit and it's insertions into the roof- allowed for moisture to collect inside during the winter and penetration from outside! Bad combo.

The Front: The contractor, said the plywood in front was powdery in places- scooped out as much as possible by hand and sucked up more w/ his shop vac. (I think we're all aware that plywood should never be able to be sucked up w/ a shop vac!) These issues arose from an old leak that our landlord attended to w/in our first year or two in the house, which involved tearing apart the wall in our front room/office as well. That wall came out in crumbly pieces as well. That wall now sits behind my sewing area- dry and solid, thankfully!

Colorado Fires...

This is the plume of smoke from the Pine Gulch fire when it was 20 miles north of Grand Junction (soon after it's lightning strike ignition).

There has been ash falling out of the sky since Friday night. This morning there were pieces of white ash all over the trampoline and patio. Many have had headaches, clogged noses and drainage in their throats from the smoke. This was the view down the street near our house when leaving for meeting at the chapel. Normally this would be a view of the Grand Mesa rising above the valley at 10,000 feet elevation.

This is looking across the Grand Valley at the Bookcliffs. They are completely obscured by smoke.

This afternoon the light was orange and now is turning red as the sun sets.

News sources are reporting that more than 100,000 acres of Colorado are currently burning. (That's out of 66 million acres, but still, it takes a lot of fire personnel to work on containment!)

We are praying for rain!
