It finally froze out here in Grand Junction- went from lovely 60-degree days to our first snow this past Thursday, and our first real freeze that night (24 degrees F).
Our gardening team went to work cleaning off the vines that afternoon.
Now, what to do with all of those green tomatoes....
Done: Green tomato pie
Rating: Fairly good
Rating: Fairly good
Highlight: EXCELLENT crust, especially since the pan was slathered in bacon grease first- YUM!
Down side: Green tomatoes still look like green tomatoes, despite the good flavors of cinnamon and molasses
To Do:
-Relish (or chow chow, depending on from where you hail)
-Pickled Green Tomatoes with onions, carrots, and peppers
-Breaded and fried (maybe- I dislike the work of breading and frying- and the grease)
-Green Tomato Gratin (should be good- especially since there is white wine in the sauce and sautéed onions on top)
