We picked (pulled, rather) the first batch of carrots from our garden last Thursday. We planted them at the beginning of June, so they took a little over two months to grow and mature. Here's Silas washing his carrot.
Amelie was very happy about her carrot. Both kids have been very enthusiastic about helping pick from the garden. They are good at picking beans, and eager to pick the tomatoes and help with the watering. (Yes, yes- we have to water things here in the state of Colorado. Instead of getting an average of 13-15 feet of rainfall per year like Ketchikan, we get the prescribed 15 inches of a semi-arid climate.)
And here's David preparing to taste his funny little carrot! We planted Danvers Half Long carrots. Apparently this one decided to just be a quarter long, and also attempted to multiply itself.
We also got to meet a neighbor that we didn't know was living on our street. He (or she?) was strolling across the street rather quickly for a turtle. David's parents spotted the turtle first, and we all went out to meet it. It seemed to be in a hurry. Our neighbor was mowing his yard, and it apparently decided to take advantage of the open gate. He said this little guy showed up in their yard last summer, hibernated under a rock this past winter, and has continued to live happily in their yard throughout this summer. I was a bit disappointed that he already belonged to someone, as I was already picturing him out in our backyard, eating all of the bugs! I was glad he got to go back home, though.

Yumm... fresh homegrown carrots! They look really good. And I'm sure Silas and Amelie enjoyed watching the turtle! Glad you all are doing well.
